Alex, singing @backstreetboys for Valentine’s Day. Because she wants it that way.
What, you don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day wearing red lipstick, polka dots and NASA? Weird. (Happy Valentine’s Day, lovelies! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️)
For the longest time, I thought that I my hand writing obsession was actually just me stalling -- that my turning away from the computer was actually a thinly veiled attempt at doing anything to feel productive, without actually doing the work.  But then, I found this New York Times article, that extols the virtues of writing by hand.  I particularly liked this: “Cursive or not, the benefits of writing by hand extend beyond childhood. For adults, typing may be a fast and efficient alternative to longhand, but that very efficiency may diminish our ability to process new information.” I'm feeling vindicated.  I mean, you know how I love me some journaling.  Now I don't feel guilty about using it to straight-up work, too.
This weekend, Marcus convinced me to go to #secondsaturday at @sawyeryards, a creative campus filled with art studios. On every second Saturday of the month, the resident artists throw their doors open in sort of a community open house, where you can drink wine, listen to live music, and buy art.
I’m so glad we went, otherwise I might have never met Ellen Harper Ray, the artist behind this piece entitled “Keeping It Together.” It stopped Marcus and me in our tracks, and she told us that she created it because she had been intrigued by the idea of “home,” and what that means for each of us. We love the optimism of the vibrant colours, and the shocking yellow threading that seems to be keeping the ramshackle house in the image together. “If that hasn’t been the theme of our past year, I don’t know what is,” I joked to Marcus.

We bought it.

It’s being framed now, and I can’t wait to put it over our fireplace. It’s the perfect way to celebrate triumph over everything #hurricaneharvey threw at us. ✨ #makelight #chookooloonksrebuild
