#tbt to an evening almost exactly 5 years ago, when my friend @finslippy introduced me to @highlinenyc park. It remains one of the coolest man-made nature spaces I've ever seen. (Thanks for the memories, Alice!)

Three and a half years ago, I set a goal to be #afroliciousby50: for the first time since I was about 11, I'd grow my hair out, save for a minor trim, without any chemical alterations to its curl pattern, until I was 50. It had been about 35 years since I'd seen my hair in its natural state, so I wanted to see (a), if I could put up with it more than 1" long, and (b) if I even liked my hair in its natural state.

I realized this morning that I'd turned 50 more than a week ago, and never given you an update! So here it is - I took this shot about 30 minutes ago. What I learned on the journey: I love my hair, I'd bought into the idea that I had "bad hair," and it just wasn't true. Although I miss my short hair sometimes, I'm not ready to go back just yet. Who knows: #afroliciousby55? 😜 (Swipe to see all the stages along the way!)

While on vacation last week, I found this tiny heart-shaped rock on the beach. I picked it up and threw it in my beach bag.

Today, I rediscovered it, and decided to photograph it and share it with you, because it's the perfect symbol for what I'm about to say:

I may not be the leader of a great country with the power to ban people from various institutions, but know that as the creator of our little light-filled Chookooloonks community, ALL - every single one of you - are welcome. Also know that if you want to be a part of this space, all I ask is that you commit to leading with love, and be open to the idea that you have the power to make light. 💕✨ #lookforthelight #makelight #nobigotryzone

Admission: I completely overindulged while in Saint-Martin. But I make no apologies- when you're on a beautiful island famous for its amazing French cuisine and refreshing cocktails, celebrating your 50th birthday, by God, THAT'S WHAT YOU DO. But now I'm back to reality, and back to focusing on my health like it's my job. Because at this age and this stage of my career (I have book called "Make Light," coming out, after all), it IS my job.
