Hours

Although I travel a lot for my work, this is the first business trip I’ve taken in months, and certainly the first one since Harvey. It feels very weird to be away from Marcus and Alex, since we’ve pretty much been joined at the hip for the past 8 weeks, in our tiny apartment. I’m glad this trip is only 24 hours - I’m going to need to ease into this travel life again!

In the meantime, though, the light remains lovely. ✨

Back on the road - flying out to do a closing keynote for an awesome nonprofit whose focus is children. A quick lunch (with a glass of wine) before I board.

Getting my groove back, baby. ✨

As we slowly pack up the garage apartment - our refuge after Harvey - to move into our new apartment, I have a chance to notice what I saved from our flooded home. These are necklaces my mother used to let me wear for special occasions when I was a toddler: one of them has a heart pendant, the other has a cross and a Miraculous Medal (a medal with an image of the Virgin Mary). The heart pendant has a dent in it, because apparently I used to chew on it whenever I wore it.
I haven’t worn these since I was about 5 years old - I tried them on this afternoon to see if the little gold chains would fit around my neck.

Just.

I think the time has come for me to wear them again for a little while.

Christening a new mug on a new coffee table in a new apartment with peppermint tea, while waiting for the dude to hook up internet. Slowly, slowly. ✨
