My favourite room in our house, at my favourite time of day. I was telling a friend recently that I didn’t understand why I was afraid of wearing colour and mixing patterns on my body, when clearly I’ve got not issue with colour and mixed patterns in my home. She suggested that maybe I was worried about what people thought of me when I was out in public. Even though my initial instinct was to protest, I realized she might be right. I’ve been thinking about it ever since. Because seriously, mixing patterns feels like home. #chookooloonksrenewal
When I was in college, I took the Myers-Briggs test for the first time. It said I was an extrovert. But here’s a secret: I totally lied. I answered all the questions related to extroversion/introversion the way I thought they SHOULD be answered, not the way I actually felt. Over the years, I’ve taken the test many more times, and more and more each time, I test as a stronger and stronger introvert. Make no mistake: I’m not shy. I can easily speak in front of a crowd of thousands - and even enjoy it. But alone is absolutely how I recharge. It’s why I LOVE working at home alone, and never feel lonely, not even for a second. INFJ, baby - that’s me. But it’s also why, every week or so, I force myself to work in a coffeehouse, just to get out of the house, and force myself to interact with people. Because social is good. Social reminds us we’re all interconnected. We NEED social. ✨
“Being outdoors” today means sitting on our new patio, glass of wine at hand, and burning some gifted Palo Santo (thanks, sweet @olofragrance!), while catching up on some overdue strategic planning for my business. Perhaps not what the doctor prescribes, but it feels like self-care to me. Happy Saturday, friends. Pamper yourself today. ✨
A few months ago, I met a friend for drinks who I hadn’t seen in about 5 years. When I saw her, I gasped: she looked AH MAY ZING. But here’s the thing - it wasn’t that she looked like she hadn’t aged; in fact, it was clear that she had. Her hair had gotten more silver, and there were more crinkles around her eyes. But she was RADIANT. Her smile was bigger and wider and more unapologetic than ever. It was clear she was loving every bit of her life. And because she’s older than I am by several years, I couldn’t help but think: “YASSSSS. THAT’S how I want to look as I get older. HELL yes.” There is this STRONG misconception that older = less beautiful, less radiant, just *less.* And I think if you believe that, it will likely become true for you. But my friend is proof that for Some, the EXACT OPPOSITE is true; that “older” can actually mean MORE radiant, MORE beautiful, MORE luscious. I plan on being Some. How ‘bout you?
