Today I kissed a stingray on the nose - our boat captain told us kissing one brings you 7 years of good luck. So I made Marcus kiss one, too. (He said he Frenched it, for good measure.) So if we don’t get into our house by October, I have no choice but assume we got a broken stingray. 🌞🌊
How you know I’m a mom: every time a white person passes, I mumble, “YOU need to reapply sunscreen ... and YOU need to reapply sunscreen ... and YOU ... “ 🌞
This morning I woke up on my 51st birthday in Houston. By late afternoon, I was swimming in the Caribbean Sea with the two people I love the most. Next up: sunset cocktails and dinner. Taking a moment of gratitude for my life. Moments like this remind me that no matter what happens, I have a good one. And now, for my birthday wish: may all of you - wherever you are - have a peaceful moment of deep gratitude for the love and goodness in your lives, too. Thank you for all your good energy: I’m sending it back to you, hundredfold. ❤️✨❤️✨❤️✨
At the nail salon today, the woman next to me was white, from Louisiana, full of joy, 92-years-old, and sharp as a tack. We struck up a conversation, she gave me advice (“as long as you have bifocals, hearing aids and compression socks, you can KEEP ON GOING”). She cracked jokes one after another. She helped me pick out a nail polish colour (“you gotta go bright. When I turned 90 I realized you should say or do whatever you want. Go bright.”) . Finally I said, “I love your advice. I think you might be my guardian angel.” . She laughed. “If I am, I’ve broken my wings a few times,” she said. “Mostly because of my BIG MOUTH.” . Then, suddenly, she got serious. “You know, I grew up in a time when I wouldn’t have been as friendly to you, and you wouldn’t have been as friendly to me.” “Yes, I know,” I smiled. “I NEVER understood what was to be gained by that. I NEVER have.” ✨ #makelight
