Two things:

1) this amazing photo of @alexis_rhys was taken by her friend @jet._.n, and it is OFFICIALLY MY FAVOURITE PHOTO OF ALEX EVER. (Thank you, Jet!); and
2) registration for #create2020 closes TODAY. It’s a 15-day, online, journaling course for framing your new year, and it costs less than your daily cup of coffee. G’on and get you some (tap my bio in my profile to learn more - but do it TODAY!) Join me. You’ll feel like Alex looks in this picture. ✨💦 #makelight
Last year on this date, I looked in the mirror and was struck by how tired I looked - the end of 2017 throughout 2018 was a doozy. On a whim, I grabbed my camera and took a selfie (the first pic), and called it my “before picture.” I wanted to see if I could spend a year taking care of myself, to see if I could erase the stress that had settled all over my face.

For the most part last year, I did. I drank more water and I moved more. I began taking care of my skin, and now wear far less makeup. What I naively didn’t anticipate was that life would continue throwing stress-balls at me (the end of this year was a doozy), but I practiced more self-compassion.

The second picture is this morning’s selfie. I have more hair (and a few extra pounds), but I think I look less tired? I think?

Anyway, this was an interesting experiment - one I’ll likely continue for 2020. Stay tuned.
This morning I woke up feeling ... spent. This year has been really tough, with things that have happened that aren’t mine to share publicly, but I think it's safe to say that after 2017 (and Hurricane Harvey), this year has been one of the most challenging that we've faced as a family.
This year is one that I'm not going to be sad to see the back of.

But one of the things I always invite people to do when they feel this way about the end of the year is to go through their phone archives, and find the moments of light that undoubtedly occurred in the past 12 months. So I had a physician-heal-thyself moment, and decided to do the same. These images are what I found:

1. Spending #NYE in our new house with Marcus' lovely sister and her family
2. Settling into the new house
3. Traveling with @lauramayes to be in the audience while our friend @brenebrown's Netflix special was taped
4. Visiting Palm Springs for the first time
5. Appearing for a brief moment in an #amypoehler movie with Brené and Laura
6. Visiting Savannah, Georgia, while @alexis_rhys attended a summer program at her dream university
7. Visiting @therealmarksavage and his family in Stockholm
8. Reuniting with our English family in Cornwall, England
9. Teaching @alexis_rhys to drive (!!)
10. Remaining madly in love with my family.

So honestly? In retrospect, this was a stellar year. I'm so glad I had the evidence to prove it.

Happy New Year, lovelies. See you in the next decade. Let's continue to #makelight together.
Over the last many years, inspired by my friend @aliedwards and her #onelittleword project, I’ve chosen a single word to help act as my North Star for the coming year.

Except this year, I chose 2 words. And I started a scary little practice to keep them top-of-mind.

I share more about this at the blog (check out my bio for more). Are you planning #onelittleword this year? How are you going to play with it?
