love and callas
Happy Love Thursday, everyone. Before I get into Love Thursday, a couple of housekeeping items:
1. I'm so positively thrilled at all the kind blog pink lotus flowers that are sprinkled all over the web now -- thank you so much. Several of you have expressed an interest in having a sort of "Kind Blog blogroll," and I think that's a splendid idea. So, if you wouldn't mind, if you've added the lotus flower to your site, please send me an e-mail to let me know you did, with the link to your site, and subject line "blogroll me!" Once I return from NYC this weekend, I'll do my best to add a blogroll onto the Kind Blog site, so you can peruse kind blogs to your hearts' content -- sound like a plan? (For easy reference, e-mail is chookooloonksATgmailDOTcom.)
2. Thanks also for your lovely words about Alex -- you guys made me feel so much better. I've pretty much decided that I'm not going to worry about it too much -- she's young, and she's doing fine.
Okay, then! On to Love Thursday:
When I was planning my wedding (the white one, not the first "elope-y" one), I decided that I wanted the day to have a decidedly Caribbean feel, particularly since we were getting married in London, far away from Trinidad. Our wedding was tiny -- only 30 people -- and I wanted it to feel intimate, and warm and tropical. For my bouquet, I wanted tropical flowers; however, many of the flowers I wanted weren't in season. "How about calla lillies?" the florist suggested. "They're quite tropical, and by the time your wedding happens, they'll be pretty easy to come by."
Though I hadn't considered callas before, I fell in love with them -- so much so, in fact, that when Marcus and I rushed to get married 2 months before our set wedding date (all the better to get him a visa to the U.S., or so we thought), I returned to the florist, and had them throw together a small bouquet, including callas. The day after our "elope-y" wedding, I placed the small bouqet in a vase, and placed it in a sunny spot. Marcus saw it, and pulled out his charcoals, and quickly did this:

This lily now hangs on our bedroom wall. And although this is one of the cruder of Marcus' artwork, I love this sketch, because it reminds me of our first wedding day, and its spontaneity, and the beautiful callas.
As always, please share your links of love in the comments below, and your images in the Love Thursday Flickr pool. Also, don't forget to check out the Love Is All Around site for more beautiful images, as well.
May your day be full of love.
__________

That's so beautiful! Now if I "pulled out my charcoals" I wouldn't end up with anything like that;)

I'm sorry that I don' thave a picture for your love thursday, I keep thinking about it and then it passes, (the day not the thought) anyhow I wanted to thank you 'casue I also had 2 weddings and I never knew how to explain them: the little one and the big one, the marriage and the wedding, the January one and the June one, it's just awkward, but I like the elope-y one and the white one, it's so much more eloquent.
thanks!
