I'm so thrilled to announce that I'll be speaking at the amazing Altitude Design Summit, the premier business conference for creatives. I'll be speaking at one of the early bird sessions on Wednesday, on how to name what your business is about -- all in preparation for meeting all those brands and potential business partners in the coming days. I hope you'll join me!
I'm thrilled to announce that I'll be speaking at The Texas Conference for Women, the annual conference that provides connection, motivation, networking, inspiration and skill-building for thousands of Texas women every year. I'll be discussing social media, and how to use you can use it effectively for awareness of your cause, fundraising, community growth, engagement and more. In addition, I'll also be hosting some one-on-one time, where you can ask me absolutely anything you want!

I'm thrilled to announce that registration for the Houston Limelight Sessions is now open! The LimeLight Sessions are all about encouraging you along your own path of self-discovery. We'll spend two days together, working on journaling prompts, exercises, food for thought and meditations to help us to see and develop and create our own paths forward toward more fulfilling lives. The exercises will invite you to tap into your inner creative, and invite you to write, journal, doodle and even draw your thoughts, to help provide you more insight into how your spirit ticks.
I'm so thrilled to be speaking at the Texas Women Rainmakers Conference, the premier unaffiliated, independent female lawyer event in Texas, about women and leadership; specifically, a re-definition of leadership that calls for a mandate of individuality.
If you're a woman attorney, I hope you'll attend. Best of all: you can earn CLE when you do!
Here's something awesome: I was honoured to make an appearance on YouGrowGirl, the website by my friend Gayla Trail, all about "gardening for the people"! It's now up on her site. I'd love for you to grab a cuppa, find somewhere comfortable to sit, and give a listen -- it was so much fun to do (and there's an enormous amount of me giggling -- do I really giggle that much?), what with me being somewhat incredulous that things are actually growing in my back yard, and her amusement that I expected anything else. She's also a wonderfully gentle and encouraging teacher, so if you've ever toyed with the idea of gardening but have been afraid to take the plunge, this would be a great podcast to listen to, without fear of being overwhelmed.
I was honoured to participate on the opening keynote panel of the Mom 2.0 Summit on body confidence, sponsored by Dove. I've been a fan of Dove's Real Beauty campaign for many years (as I said to their director of marketing, I'm wearing their deodorant right now). The other impressive (and admittedly somewhat intimidating) panelists were so warm and so funny, the hour we spent up on that stage was incredibly fun. They were:
- Jennifer Bremner, Director of Marketing, Dove
- Pippa Lord, blogger at Sous Style
- Dr. Robyn Silverman, child development and body image expert
Definitely go check them out -- they've got so much good to say.
I also moderated a panel on the evolution of blogging. This was really special: I had the pleasure of moderating a conversation among one of the most diverse group of really wise women I've ever had the pleasure of being in the company of. Get this: the panel consisted of a charity foundation CEO, a film critic, and beauty queen and a globetrotter. Amazing, right? And each of them was so very smart, funny and engaging, all I had to do is toss them a question and get out of their way, and they blew the room away with their generosity and charm and just plain smarts. It was incredibly fun. They were:
- Heather Spohr (the foundation CEO), who blogs at The Spohrs are Multiplying
- Sandie Angulo Chen (the film critic), who blogs at Teen Lit Rocks
- Veena Goel Crownholm (the beauty queen -- Miss California 2004), who blogs at Tiaras to Babies
- Heather Greenwood-Davis (the globetrotter) who blogs at Globetrotting Mama
These four women write about everything under the sun, and so beautifully. Don't miss their work.
And finally, I was so honoured to receive the Iris Award for Best Photography. I was so overwhelmed, and I'm pretty sure I babbled something in gratitude into the microphone, but I honestly can barely remember anything I said in the haze of emotion I was experiencing at the time. So, now that I've calmed down, I'll say this: first and foremost, thank you so much, all of you who continue to visit me here and encourage me and support my work. It's really difficult to express how much your doing so has changed my life for the better, but it couldn't be more true that you have. I also owe a huge debt of gratitude to the lovely people of Mom 2.0 Summit, because receiving that award last night was absolutely the highlight of my career. And finally, deep, deep, heartfelt thanks to my co-nominees in this category: the photographers listed below are truly phenomenal. Their talent, and their consistent commitment to excellence challenges me to strive to improve my photography with every shot I take.
In short, they inspire me every damned day:
