It’s Friday, it’s a beautiful day, and I’m single until tomorrow. So I decided to take myself to a local wine bar that just opened up before everyone gets out of work to check it out. I’ve got a great glass of wine, a delicious cheese plate and a good book. Oh, and @etiennejazz just came over the sound system, providing sounds from my Trinidadian homeland. Sorted.

My paternal grandmother used to love to garden - her backyard in Trinidad had tons of fruit trees - pomegranates, mangos, bananas, soursop, and of course, coconuts. It also had tons of orchids, growing all over the trees and tree trunks, almost like weeds. To this day, I can’t see an orchid without thinking of her.

Because @marzjennings knows I have a thing for orchids, whenever he sees an unusual one at the grocer’s, he buys one for me and brings it home. He’s really good at keeping them alive — and I am decidedly not — so it’s especially nice, since he knows he’s going to be the one taking care of it.

The one he bought me last week is in full bloom, and it’s making me very happy.
