Our next door neighbours are in the process of selling their home - they never returned after Hurricane Harvey, so the house is still in disrepair, and it’s basically being sold for lot value. (They’ve since moved to Colorado - fewer hurricanes, I guess.) We anticipate someone will buy the land, bulldoze the structure, and build something new.

In the front garden of their home, there”s a huge lime tree. A few months ago, when they were in town, I asked if I could pick the limes when they came in. “Of course,” they responded. “Take them all, otherwise they’ll just go bad.” Judging from our fruit bowl, it’s time to make some rum punch. And when I do, I’ll toast our neighbours, and their amazing lime tree. (I’ll be sad when the new builders destroy the tree. I wish there was some way we could save it, but it’s seriously huge.) ✨🍈🍹

Arrived early for a meeting at an old haunt - enough time to have a cup of chai, some breakfast, listen to Solange on their sound system and breathe.

Breathe.

I live in a country whose administration is increasingly unabashedly vocal about its contempt for me and people like me. Last night’s rally, where the leader of this country whipped attendees into a frenzy, shouting “SEND HER BACK!” about a *naturalized citizen,* took me from a state of uneasiness to actual fear.

Breathe.

Breathe.

And now, as the lovely @valariekaur reminds us, in the words of the midwife:
