« welcome »
Our (newly clean) entryway, waiting for our guests. The candle is in the family room. Photographed with Nikon D300, 35mm lens.
Several years ago, my parents lived in Stavanger, Norway. I remember once when my parents were in town visiting, my mother told me about this lovely Norwegian custom:
She said that in Norway, when you stop by someone's house, they often light a candle, in welcome.
How great is that?
Since then, I try to remember to do that when a friend drops by. It's such a kind little gesture.

Nice. What a warm entry. Have a lovely visit with your friends.
I'm going to adopt this custom. Lovely entryway.
What a beautiful space and such a warm welcome. Have a great time with your friends :-)
A former art teacher of my artist daughter who has autism, www.GraceGoad.com, used to have flower petals scattered at the doorstep of her home/studio when we arrived. She regularly purchased flowers and when they passed their prime, she scattered their petals on her doorstep, which was a Twainese custom for bringing good luck. This post reminded me of that. I used to do that when flowers were more in my budget. But the yard guy would always blow them off my steps. Ha!
I love this tradition! It's the first time I've heard of it. What a wonderful way to remember and acknowledge the need to cherish the moments we share with one another.
Lovely photo, by the way!!
Beautiful flowers in a lovely place, and such a nice photo to tell us about it....
After such a warm welcome, I'm sure your guests will feel comfortable.
