chookooloonks life list update: number 16, photograph 1000 faces (patti gras)

Last week, I was honoured to have the opportunity to do a taping of Houston PBS' show, Living Smart, hosted by Emmy award-winning Patti Gras.  Patti is this really awesome force of nature, and when we met a few weeks before taping, she totally blew me away.  As I drove away from her office that day, however, I couldn't help feeling that I'd met her before.  Her name wasn't familiar to me, but I rarely forget a face.

I couldn't shake the feeling ... and then, about a week later, it came to me:  about 12 or so years ago, I used to be a regular at this little South American restaurant in my neighbourhood that served live music and great sangria.  One of the more popular bands was a Latin folk group called Barandua.

Patti was the lead singer.

I knew I knew that face.

I'll be sure to let you guys know when the episode airs and is online.  Oh, and by the way -- I've been quietly updating my 1000 faces project as I take photographs.  You can see them all here.

Yesterday, my friend Susannah tweeted this quote:

"When I say I want to photograph someone, what it really means is that I'd like to know them."

Yes.  Exactly.
