best of 2012: january - march

Inspired by Susannah Conway, I've spent the last few days going through my favourite shots that I've taken over the past twelve months, and it's been such an amazing exercise:  as I looked through the thousands of photos I've taken, it was interesting to note which ones moved me.  Some of them I love because I'm proud of nailing some technical aspect of photography that I found tricky, and others are because of the memories they evoke, even though technically, they're mediocre photographs.  I'm also surprised that some of my favourite shots actually came out of my iPhone, rather than my Nikon or the Hasselblad.

So for the final days of 2012, I thought I'd share my personal favourite shots I took over the year here with you, so that I have them all in one place -- sort of a virtual memory lane.  Also, for the record, I strongly recommend this practice of reviewing the shots you've taken over the previous 12 months -- it's a lovely little exercise in mindfulness, and you might be surprised to learn that your year was more beautiful than you thought.
