it's cinco de mayo: time for queso!

Many years ago, when my family and I were living in Trinidad and I was blogging about toddlers and tropical things, I used to frequently get comments from someone who went by the name "Girl Con Queso."  She was kind and smart and warm, and when, after announcing on the blog that we were moving back to Houston, and she sent me an email saying, "I live in Houston, we're going to be friends, let's have coffee," I didn't hesitate to say yes.

One of the best decisions I've ever made:  Girl Con Queso -- Laura -- is now one of my closest friends.

Fast forward 8 or so years, and Laura and I were talking about her blog on the phone one day.  She wanted to revamp it:  make it a destination about Texas and Southwestern living, but not in the clichéd, hackneyed, stereotypical way many people outside of Texas view the Lone Star State.  Laura wanted her site to share the food, music, travel and Texas lifestyle that she knew to be true of her beloved birthplace.  Having lived in Texas for many years myself, I knew exactly what she meant.  And so needless to say, when she kindly asked me to contribute, I was thrilled to help.

After many months of planning and strategizing and designing, her new site -- The Queso -- is now ready to be revealed.  Today, on Cinco de Mayo.  How fitting.

And so, behold the power of Queso.  Take a look around.  See what it's all about.  We hope you love it.
