this was a good week (and an announcement!)
This was a good week! Here’s why:
• America has a new president, and the inauguration went off without an insurrection. (Was I the only person holding his/her/their breath?). Also, Alex is officially a British citizen and has the paperwork to prove it. (Naturally, we celebrated with tea.)
• This samurai was folded from a single sheet of paper. What.
• Why yes, this version of this sea shanty, featuring voices and music from so many contributors, has been on repeat in my mind for days, why do you ask?
• And speaking of the sea, this compilation of images by women photographers of Hawaii’s big wave season is pretty incredible.
• And finally for today’s soundtrack. I don’t know that I’ve ever had a video more often sent to me than this one, of National Youth Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman reciting her poem, The Hill We Climb, at the inauguration this week. She is positively spellbinding. (My favourite line is everyone’s favourite line: For there is always light, if only we are brave enough to see it — if only we are brave enough to be it.) Chookooloonks is going to go dark for about two weeks — and when it re-emerges, it will be a brand new website! It has been over 4 years since I’ve done a website refresh, and over a decade since an actual designer has put a professional touch on it. But it’s a new dawn and a new day, friends — and it was time that Chookooloonks met this time with a new look.
Never fear, it will still be chock full o’photographs, and hopefully a bright-enough look to inspire me to write on the blog even more often. So stay tuned. And thanks much for your patience, friends.
