When there isn’t a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico, we often forget that we live near the ocean — only about an hour’s drive away.

But earlier this summer, Alex decided that she wanted to learn to surf.

So every weekend or so, Marcus has been taking her down to the coast. They get up early, and are back by noon.

It’s harder than Alex expected, but they’re loving it. She’s getting to learn, Marcus is getting to relive his teen-hood.
