#tbt: the things that connect us

I was going through my archives this morning and found this image from almost exactly 5 years ago, taken on my trip to Ethiopia.  My immediate thought was, "Man, kids are the same everywhere."  It's true:  the sound you hear on any given playground or schoolyard is exactly the same whether you're in Houston, or Ethiopia, or Mexico, or England or Saint-Martin -- somehow the sounds of shrieks and laughter and play mingle in exactly the same way, regardless of the language the children are speaking.

It is just one example of how the things that connect us vastly outnumber the things that divide us.

In a time when we tend to focus on the opposite, I thought I'd share a little reminder of this truth.

(Another little throwback that makes the same point:  this film of that trip, made by talented filmmaker and friend, Ryan YoungbloodClick here or the image below to watch.)

Happy Thursday, friends.
