the sunday drive home

 "That was a good meal."

"Yeah, it was." 

"I tipped the waitress extra." 

"Yeah?  Why?" 

"She wished you a Happy Father's Day." 

"So?" 

"So, she guessed right.  Alex was sitting next to me, not you; and yet she guessed right.  That never happens with us, you know?"

"Hmmm..."

"Usually we get, 'Is your husband the father?'" 

"Huh. You're right." 

"So, she got a big tip.  I figured her taking that risk was worth something."

"Mmhmm."
