« view 07: signposts, symbols and spaces »

Over the last two days, I've had the opportunity to spend some meaningful time sharing two great meals and communing with two very good friends, in two very beautiful spaces.

Over the years, I've come to the conclusion that the difference between an "acquaintance" and a "friend" is that an acquaintance is someone you can have a good time with, but a friend is someone who, after having spent a considerable amount of time with them, makes you feel really fortunate that you actually have someone like that in your life.
These past two days make me realize that I am a very lucky person.

I recently gave a talk on family. When outlining my many families, I realized that family are the ones you eat with. After giving my talk, someone came up to me and told me that the word companion means "to share bread with" in Spanish.
I think that it's important to have acquaintances; they are little bright spots in our lives, but more importantly, they help us remember who our true friends really are.
And, because of you, I have become a semi-regular reader of Brene Brown and follow her on Twitter. Man, she is inspiring. She has had an impact on me! More than once. What a cool woman. Lucky you. Lucky her.
Have thought twice now since yesterday's photo processing post that I would like to read more about anything you care to share about your photography. It is fascinating and I am learning by just looking. I practiced some of the techniques last night. As, well, I have been learning through observation of some of the love bomber's photos, as well.
I have worked with photojournalists, as a writer, for deacades. And then produced my new book, www.fromheartachetohope.org, with a portrait photographer. In the next 10 years, I MUST return and will do so to my own visual art. Photography is one way I have visually expressed myself in the last 3 decades--though until this year, I had put it aside after my divorce. I think what these blogs may have given me is a path to a way that I can explore photography that is for me. And I say all this so, very, very humbly. I have worked with greats. I mean people who went on to photograph for NYT, Ntl Geo., Time and So. Living. I just want to keep tweeking, learning as I go and having fun.
Thank you.
I love that metal Christmas tree!
wow! amazing shots. and, i hope you don't mind, but that last paragraph about acquaintances and friends i have "stolen" and places as one of my favorite quotations on facebook. with your name cited as the source, of course. it's just, that's something i've been thinking a lot about lately but you've put it into words perfectly. thank you. :)
I couldn't agree more! :)
I LOVE moments like that. Realizing how truly blessed you are to know someone. I noticed that yesterday, and totally poured my heart out in my blog this morning. December is a magical time. :)
yes, i completely agree with this. true friends who deeply see us are the real gifts in this life.
Sweet Jesus, woman! Have you not spoken some serious truth here or what?
Thank you
