Yesterday was President's Day, and so Alex's school was closed. Her best friend, Sydney, lives with her single dad, so I offered to have Sydney spend the day with us while he went to work. They're thick as thieves, Alex and Syd.
For lunch, the girls wanted to have a picnic, so I put a blanket in our back garden, brought them drinks and tuna melts and left them alone. Every five minutes or so, I'd peek through the windows to see how they were doing: I'd find them lying on their stomachs, munching away on their sandwiches, deep in conversation about clearly Very Important Matters.
Remember when you were a kid, and you'd sit around outside with your closest friends, discussing Very Important Matters?
