#40daysoflight: thoughts on peace

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

~  Martin Luther King, Jr.

This is going to be my last #40daysoflight post, and as I wind down, I have peace on my mind.  This week there were horrific attacks on the city of Brussels, but you know what's even more horrifying?  The incident in Brussels is only 1 of 64 terrorist acts that have occurred around the world this month alone.  And when the response from political figures includes messages of hate (including the idea of patrolling and "securing" Muslim neighbourhoods), I'm not sure the end is in sight.

This week is also Holy Week on the Christian calendar -- the week leading up to Easter Sunday -- and so this prayer that I stumbled upon earlier today feels particularly appropriate:

Lead me from death to life
From falsehood to truth

Lead me from despair to hope
From fear to trust

Lead me from hate to love
From war to peace

Let peace fill our hearts
Our world, our universe

Wishing all of you -- around the world -- peace, my friends.
