« view 04: walkabout »

My lunch meeting with my publisher yesterday was canceled, so I suddenly found myself with an hour or so of free time. I decided to try to get a little Christmas shopping done.

Walking around in the gloomy, drizzly day reminded me so much of walking around my old neighbourhood back in London. You know, if London were 75 degrees Fahrenheit in December (didn't it just snow the other day?).

(An aside: you know what's weird? Blogging like this, with mostly images and fewer words, feels far more intimate than blogging the way I usually do. I can't really explain why, but it does.
Does it feel this way to you, as well?)

Yes, because it's like looking through your eyes.
i am swooning here... love seeing the world through your eyes
I think its more intimate because if you love photography, THAT is your words most times. Photography is IN you and you are 'speaking' whats from the depths of your very soul.
I think your soul is kinda beautiful!
This is kind of off the topic, but do shop owners ever tell you to stop taking photos while you're browsing? That happened to me once, and I couldn't figure out what was the big deal. Anyway...these photos are great. I especially love the one with the stack of agendas. Something about it made my heart skip a beat.
I so love seeing you photographs, although I must admit I miss your poetic and honest words to go with it. To me, the intimacy come from the marriage of the two-- words and image. Not that I don't love the photo journaling from the last few days!

No, I've never had that happen -- but I'm always very careful to ask an employee or manager if it's okay if I take a few photos. I think that helps.

Thanks for the kind words -- the words will return, I promise! :)

Do you stealthy taking photos in shops or get permission beforehand? I wanted to do this yesterday but got a bit timid!
Ah! Asking permission! Why did that never occur to me? Thanks for the tip! :)
I love all these colors. And yes, the photos feel intimate - in a lovely "Let me show you what I see" way.
Karen, I enjoy your photos and blog very much. You are one of my Top Sites! After the holidays, can you please explain what post-processing occurs on your typical photograph? Your photographs all have a certain look that is yours alone, and I'm sure they did not come out of the camera looking that way. It would be helpful to see a before and after for us photo buffs. Do you use photoshop? Thank you and Happy Holidays!
