let's talk about race, baby: make light season 4, episode 12

I’ve already mentioned my dear friend Mira Jacob, and her new book, Good Talk: A Memoir in Conversations, here on the blog. In addition to simply being a beautiful book (it’s a “graphic memoir” — who knew that was a thing?), it’s also a revelatory and revolutionary work, touching on racism, colourism, interracial relationships, immigration and so much more. So I knew that I wanted to get Mira back on The Make Light Show (she was also on season 1, talking about creativity).

This time, Mira and I spent a solid hour talking about race — and honey, we went in. We talked about what we’ve done right, what we’ve done wrong, and everything in-between — and what resulted was a heartfelt discussion (honestly, at a few points I’m pretty sure I forgot about the microphone in front of me).
